Earth Day at ChargePoint

This is an unusual moment for all of us, but the earth is still turning and Earth Day has still come around—for the 50th time. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we thank everyone for staying home, practicing social distancing and washing hands frequently, and we extend our sincere thanks to all the essential workers keeping things moving and ensuring our safety. We appreciate your dedication and bravery.

Current shelter-in-place orders amount to a massive global experiment on the impact of deleting fossil fuel vehicles, and they have already produced remarkable emissions reductions. On Earth Day, we can "imagine" a world where we build on those reductions as more and more people choose to drive electric. The Beatles may have disbanded 50 years ago (!), the same year Earth Day was founded, but their influence lives on as ChargePoint drivers travel “across the universe.”

In 2019 alone, our drivers traveled the equivalent of the distance from Earth to the sun (150 million kilometers or 93 million miles) more than eight times, all using electricity instead of gas. That’s truly astronomical (it's even called an astronomical unit), not to mention 60% farther than we went in 2018. Let’s take a look at what else our drivers achieved in 2019.

You’ve seen how much driving electric helps in terms of both environmental and economic savings, but we don’t have to stop there. What are your ideas for saving the Earth in a changing world?
