ChargePoint appoints European MD

Former Uber executive Chris Burghardt will lead the European business

Campbell, Calif (USA) – ChargePoint, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, announced the appointment of Chris Burghardt, as Managing Director for Europe.

Burghardt joins the team from Uber, where he served as Head of Policy EMEA. The appointment follows a year of tremendous growth for ChargePoint. Earlier this year the organization announced its expansion into Europe, fueled by $125m in funding raised during its Series G round. Burghardt – who has previously held leadership positions across the auto, energy, FMCG and communications sectors – will now lead these teams, working closely with European governments, utility companies, fleet operators and auto manufacturers to build out EV services and infrastructure across the region.

“I’m extremely excited to join ChargePoint at this stage in its journey,” said Burghardt. “Interest in EVs has exploded this year – we’ve seen major developments from a policy perspective, auto manufacturers are investing heavily in electric mobility, consumer demand is at record levels, while sales of vehicles continue to outpace those of petrol and diesel-powered cars. ChargePoint’s global footprint, industry relationships and team of experts means it is perfectly primed to take advantage of this growing demand. I’m eager to help bring mass electric transportation to the European market.”

ChargePoint’s CEO, Pasquale Romano, commented: “I can’t wait to see the impact Chris will have on our European business. He has a wealth of experience leading teams and businesses, while his time spent with Uber combined with his years working in the energy sector, means he has gained a deep understanding of the full EV ecosystem. He is a great fit to lead our operations in this market and to enable electric mobility across Europe.”

Burghardt officially starts as European MD in November. He joins the company after serving as EMEA Head of Policy and Communications at Uber. Prior to that, he led business development and sales at First Solar, a provider of solar panels and utility-scale PV power plants.
